Weddings are a time for celebration, but there are also a million little tasks to take care of at the same time. From choosing the right venue to finding the best price for catering, you likely have a lot on your mind at the moment if you are planning your wedding. If you are hosting any of your wedding festivities inside your home or using it as a meeting place, you may have a few additional tasks to complete, like the following.

Having a Wedding in Your Home

Hosting a wedding at your home can help you save money, but you will need to take some extra care in preparing your home. One of your top priorities for your home wedding should be the safety of your guests.

Before the big day, or before guests begin arriving in your home, go around and make sure that your home is secure and safe. Lock basement doors or entrances to any other areas you guests should avoid, such as pool areas and garages. If you will have little ones at your ceremony, you will need to be especially careful of how you set up your space. Use some quick child-proofing steps to keep those little loves safe. Place any glass or breakable items out of reach of younger children, and put covers on any electrical outlets you don’t plan to use. If you will be serving alcohol, you should also ensure that drinks are kept out of the hands of underage guests.

You’ll likely be redecorating the areas of your home that your guests will be in. Even if it’s only temporary, this is a good opportunity to experiment with your décor. A great way to try new looks is with custom wallpaper for your walls. You can try out different looks in each room, giving you a lot of options to choose from.

Setting Up a Pre-Event Meeting Spot

Even if you choose to get married outside of your home, you are still likely to use your house for any pre-event prep or planning. When you know your home will only be used as a meeting spot, you can put your focus on sprucing up the common areas alone. Decide where you would like your guests to gather when they are inside your home. Once you’ve chosen a location, make sure to deep clean these areas thoroughly, including your carpeting. This is especially true if you have pets, as lingering odors and stains are often hard to remove on your own.

You’ll want the space to be as beautiful and inviting as possible, so first take a long look at the walls. Are they in need of a fresh coat of paint or perhaps new wallpaper? Putting up wallpaper allows you to coordinate colors and even create attractive custom designs for the wedding. Peel-and-stick wallpaper is easy to apply, and if you’re looking for something that isn’t permanent, you can remove it after the wedding.

For a pre-event meeting spot, you may want to set up your living room or dining area to accommodate a large group. Choose the space that gives everyone the most space to move about, and then think about adding some small touches to keep everyone cozy. Having snacks and drinks readily is always a special touch, so set out some bowls of simple munchies, such as sausage rolls, to keep rumbling stomachs content. It’s also a good idea to show some attention to other rooms your guests may use, especially the bathroom. Stock up on plenty of hand towels and toilet paper before your planning sessions.

Hosting Overnight Guests Without Stress

It can be lovely to have friends and family members stay with you in your home. If you’re not careful, however, it can also be quite stressful. Having a house full of people to please when you are also putting the final touches on your wedding can be a bit much for anyone. So, if you intend to let guests spend the night at your house, do some careful planning and preparation well ahead of time to help you stay organized and to make their stay smoother for everyone. Make sure you have enough comfy spaces for your guests to sleep.

You may want to shop for anything from an inflatable mattress to a Murphy bed. The kind of beds you set up for your company will depend on your budget and how many people you expect. Outfit those beds with some cozy bedding and pillows to make sure your guests are well-rested for all the wedding festivities. Also add some sweet touches here, to make your loved ones feel right at home.

Your wedding day is such a major life moment, and there will be so many different decisions to worry about before the big day arrives. Make sure getting your home wedding-ready is not one of them by taking some time to plan, prep, and clean well ahead of time. Doing so will make sure your home is looking its best for any gatherings, events, or guests.
